The Times have provided an interesting update on Alexander Isak that will excite Liverpool fans.
The Reds have been busy in the transfer market with the additions of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Armin Pecsi.
Arne Slot promised that the club will be busy in the market as they attempt to build a squad that will retain the Premier League title and fight for every available trophy.
Having already spent heavily on the recruitment of Wirtz, Slot’s men do not intend to slow down in the market.
They have several targets on their radar, including Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
The Swedish international has established himself as a world-class marksman, and Liverpool has him as one of their options for the problematic No.
His current options, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, have been deemed below the needed quality, so the club are looking at several options, including Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko.
Isak appears to be Slot’s preferred option and Liverpool appear ready to break the bank to sign him despite his heafty price tag and Newcastle’s reluctance to let him leave.
The Magpies value Isak highly and are prepared to do anything to keep him.
According to The Times, they are “repared to make Isak the best-paid player in the club’s history and fight off any approach for their star striker.”
“Newcastle bosses are now ready to begin talks on a new deal that would take the 25-year-old’s salary beyond £150,000 a week and overtake the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimarães and Anthony Gordon, who are at present the top earners,” the report said.
The report also added that Liverpool are not giving up on their interest in Isak and may return for him in July.
“Liverpool have the funds to test Newcastle’s resolve, despite the acquisition of Florian Wirtz for a British-record fee that could rise to £116million and a summer spend that has already reached £200million,” Martin Hardy wrote for The Times.
“Newcastle are concerned an offer could be made early next month for Isak.”
